Betty Fillicetti

Elizabeth "Betty" Filicetti (nee Noonan), 80, of Saddle Brook, NJ and formally of the Bronx, passed away on April 23, 2014 after a short illness.  Daughter of the late Bridget Sullivan Noonan and Michael Noonan, she was born on March 19, 1934 the youngest of ten children, all of whom predeceased her.  She is survived by her sons, Joseph and Donald; her daughter-in-law Lorelei; her son-in-law John and her cherished grandchildren, Nicole and Michelle, both of whom are teachers and were a great source of pride to her.

Betty worked for the telephone company in New York prior to her marriage at which time she became a homemaker. She was forced to return to the workforce after the death of her beloved husband Frank in 1982.  During this time she was a source of inspiration, strength and support to her sons and was able to provide college educations to both of them despite financial hardship.

We used to joke that Betty had the culinary palette of a 7 year old, meaning vegetables and healthy eating were not a way of life for her. She absolutely loved her sweets and Entenmann's Thick Fudge Iced Golden Cake and a cup of tea was her breakfast for 40 years.  She was a fan of anything chocolate, especially Mallomars and never met a Twizzler she didn't like. When she was still able to cook for herself she made a mean pot of sauce, especially for an Irish woman, and her meatballs were legendary. Betty was also an avid reader most of her life and enjoyed watching television recently being partial to Mark Harmon and NCIS.

Betty was a devoted member of St. Philip the Apostle Church in Saddle Brook until 2012 when circumstances caused her to move into an assisted living home in Montville, NJ for people with Alzheimer's/Dementia. There Betty assisted the staff with daily chores such as folding laundry and setting the table for meals to keep herself busy believing she actually worked there. She would complain that they never paid her a salary either. She was also the self appointed arbiter of manners chastising other residents who didn't live up to her exacting standards. Even in sadness she always made us laugh.  She was very unique and throughout her life maintained a great sense of humor even when faced with sad and trying times.

There will be a brief visitation at the funeral home at 9am. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, April 28th, 2014 at George Washington Memorial Park, 234 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ 07653.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, 199 Water Street, 23rd Floor, New York, NY 10038 or via ALZinfo.org; or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or via stjude.org
