Henry LaViolette, 97, of Saddle Brook passed away on June 3, 2024. Henry was born on December 11, 1926 to Joseph Aime LaViolette and Germaine Bertrand in Astoria, New York. He had four siblings, Marguerite, Bertha, Albert, and Janet.
He joined the United States Navy in 1944, at just 17 years old. Henry proudly served his country as a member of the Scouts and Raiders, an elite group in the Navy. Henry was assigned to the USS Sims and participated in operations in the Pacific, including the Battle of Okinawa.
In 1947, Henry met his wife Laura on a bus to Montreal from New York. They were married in 1947 and moved to Saddle Brook in 1949. Henry and Laura went on to have three children, Wayne, Robert and Wendy.
In 1993, Henry retired as a Pressman Foreman for The New York Times. He had been a Pressman for 47 years.
Henry was lifetime member of the VFW, an active member of the Saddle Brook seniors, an avid needle pointer, bowler and golfer. Henry enjoyed many hobbies and activities that keep him busy over the years.
Henry was predeceased by his wife of 70 years Laura LaViolette, his daughter Wendy LaViolette, daughter-in-law Norma LaViolette, and all of his siblings. He is survived by his sons Wayne and Robert and Robert’s wife Lynn. His grandchildren Christopher and his wife Jenna, Nicole and her husband Andrew, Natalie and her husband William, and Shawn. His great grandchildren Harley, Eve, Grace, Luke, Isla, Charlotte, Colin, Henry, and Simon. As well as many nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held at Kugler Funeral Home on Sunday June 9th from 1:00-5:00pm. A funeral will be held Monday June 10th at 10:00am at Kugler Funeral Home followed by a service at 12:30pm at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels, or to your local food pantry.
