Stephen Anthony Spano, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024 at the age of 96. He was surrounded by his loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and kindness that will be cherished forever.
Born on November 30, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY. Stephen Spano lived a life full of passion, hard work, and dedication to his family. He was a man of great character, known for his sense of humor. He was employed in the newspaper industry and worked as a pressman for the New York Times. He enjoyed bowling, boxing and watching the Yankees as well as Jeopardy!
He was happily married to the late Josephine Spano for 64 years. He was the proud father of five children, Stephen and his wife Rita, Deborah Chodakowsky and her partner Marc, the late Joseph, Daniel and his wife April, Andrew and his wife Danielle. His family was his pride and joy, and he devoted his life to guiding, supporting, and loving them.
Stephen Spano was also a cherished grandfather to eleven grandchildren, who will forever remember the special moments shared with him, from his storytelling, to his love for classic movies.
He proudly served in the United States Navy for three years during WWII receiving the American Theater and World War II Victory Medals.
His legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family. He leaves behind a family who adored him and will greatly miss his presence.
Gathering and visiting hours on Sunday, August 11th, 2024 from 4 to 8pm at Kugler Funeral Home 311 5th Street Saddle Brook, NJ. Funeral Mass to be held on Monday, August 12th 10:30am at St. Philip the Apostle Church 488 Saddle River Road Saddle Brook, NJ. Private cremation afterwards and ashes to be buried in St Mary’s Cemetery Saddle Brook, NJ.
Stephen Spano will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
